I'm in Kansas too, and in the country. I'm so sorry about your chickens! Did the raccoon climb over the fence, or dig under the fence? Just wondering how he got in? We're going to start building our coop soon, too. But we have more of a coyote problem than a raccoon, or so I think! I guess I don't sit up nights and pay attention.

I'm planing on using the hardware cloth for everything, and maybe the welded wire for the top- not sure yet. Someone on here told me a bit ago- "build for Bear"! Hope you don't have any more problems.

The raccoon climbed over... we had a flock a year and a half ago where we had a wire roof over the run and they were never touched. I had pulled it down, taken it off, and not put it up soon enough for this flock. Blarg. The raccoon climbed over, and ripped their window open, then the screen, and had a BIG dinner. Make sure you have a roof over the run, the entire coop, and make sure your windows on the house have better lining than simple screen! Good luck!
