What would be the best way to give hens water? Preferably it needs to be cheap and I don't want to have to keep changing it a few times a day, preferably a few times a week. It would also need to be adequate for three hens.

I use the brighttap on 2 gallon insulated cooler, works like a charm. I am using it for 5 hens and full it lasts close to a week, though i check it every day.

Im looking for something like that but cheaper and in the UK because I don't want to have to pay for shipping from the US to here.

If you have old PVC pipe laying around preferably 4" you can turn it into a chicken waterer. We did 24" down, connect to a T then 25" on each side glue 2 caps on each side on the bottom and leave the top cap unglued for filling. Drill holes for the Poultry Chicken Nipples on the bottom. Ours holds about 6gal for 8 chickens. We just installed it and it has been working great. 3 days without refilling but I think it will need refilled in a day or so. Our total cost was about $5 for the nipples and I think about $10 for the caps we needed. The pipe and stuff was just laying around.

Your welcome glad I could help! One important thing I forgot is on the top cap where you fill the water. Drill a small hole in it. It doesn't need to be big its just to keep it from getting air locked. We learned the hard way

I use this setup...I only need to fill up about once a week for our 13 chickens.

Cost = $13 (for the nipples, might be cheaper for you since I think they are HQ'd in the UK)
Bucket = free, get one (with a lid) from your local grocery store's deli or bakery dept

If you want the winter setup like I have, then the cost is a bit more, was $35 for the stock tank deicer. The mylar bubble wrap isn't necessary, but does help keep the electric cost down in winter.

Nipples = horizontal nipples made by Solway, google for them.
