I'm thrilled he's back with his mom, Kat.
You got him well, now it's her job to get him grown.
Just like I told ya-you done good, my friend.

I don't know how you did it but putting her back with her hatch mates is what I would have tried.

I actually did something like Ranchhand's idea. When I moved a broody to a separate area, I put her 4 chicks in a box with 10 others from the incubator and dumped them all out with her in the new digs. She took them all. Of course, she also took one that came later when I just set it down near her. Some broodies are just great.

I took Doe's two chicks and mixed them with Rowdy in Rowdy's "playpen" for a bit. Then gave them all back to Doe. Rowdy refused to accept her at first, but now at bedtime all seems fine.

Thanks for your kind words Sheila

Rowdy has a strong sense of survival. When I think of how many times we came close to culling him.....

Okay, I only checked on Rowdy once in the night by opening the coop doors just a bit and listening for loud peeping. All was quiet.

This morning when I opened the outer coop doors I heard loud peeping. I started to walk away, but thought I better go inside and check.
Pearl, the smallest of the chicks, had gotten ahold of something? and was playing keepaway from her brothers. Rowdy and TJ were chasing her around, with their little wings flapping trying to gain speed.
Mama Doe was just trying to stay out of their way.

Dang. Kat, I'm gonna do a minor hijack here.

I can't believe that so many people I respect have agreed with me!

and thank you for not making me feel like a fool!

Back to Rowdy- sounds you have done a seamless reintroduction, GREAT JOB!
