Our brooder is ready!!
We started by ordering a standard brooding kit, then we set up the fenced in area.
After we took care of all of that we went our local feed store (but I'm sure walmart would do fine) and got pine shavings and laid it down inside about 1 inch thick everywhere.
Baleigh and I then assembled the waters and feeders and we strung up the heat lamps. It took about an hour to complete everything but when the baby chicks come next week they will be super happy!!! :D

It looks very nice, but if I can make a suggestion...

overheating chicks is more dangerous than them being a little cool. I'd take down one of those lamps and keep the other one by a side of the brooder, not right in the middle. chicks only need a warm area, not a warm world. One heat lamp that size easily provides enough heat for a couple dozen chicks.

Definitely buy shavings from the feed store! I get 11 cubic feet compressed shavings from the Grange for under 10 bucks, that's a LOT of shavings! Wallys and pet stores are big ol rip-offs for shavings in the cute little guinea pig bags.

X2. Otherwise it looks great!;)

It is for fifty chicks and is about 7 ft long ways....though it would work out just didn't want to crowd them...lamps had it a bit over 92 after 2 hours. What do you think?
