Let me introduce you to my flock
First our story. I picked 6 4 week old chicks in October 2014, 2 Pekins and bantam araucana (aus) 2 rir x isa browns and a light Sussex. at 8 weeks one started crowing, the black pekin which by this point I was suspecting was crossed with araucana, by 12 weeks it was becoming apparent I had more than one rooster. By 16 weeks I had rehomed 4 of my 6 and had 2 young Pekins in quarantine to replace them. Over Christmas we went away for 2 nights, we came home to only feathers in the run, the araucana, named Luna reappeared and was put in with the quarantined Pekins by our pet sitter. The light Sussex was gone.
I soon found 3 young pullets to bring my numbers up to 6. And I threw in a Wyandotte hen but lost her to heat stroke a week later. Sadly Luna disappeared. I fear a dog but there was no evidence ever found. Thankfully since then we have had no more casualties.
First up is Hermione the Barnevelder, nervous sticky beak, always has to know what's going on, but low in the pecking order,
This is Ginny the pekin bantam, quiet sweet natured, sticks close to the head hen but can stand her own
Next is Hedwig the light Sussex. Nosy and noisy, middle of the flock, happy to be where ever there is food
Fleur is a light x buff Sussex. Very food orientated, always first to see what treats I might have
And Cho the pekin, head hen, bossy and noisy keeps every one in line.
They are all spoiled slackers. At 34 and 30 weeks I am yet to see any eggs, now coming in to winter I fear it could be another few months before they start.
So with that in mind I've been looking out for laying hens to fill the void.
Finally this week I introduced 3 isa browns and 1 white hen whose exact breeding I'm unsure of, possibly leghorn. Already I've had 4 eggs but I'm stuck for names, I'm sure any one who has read this far has figured out the name theme I have going.
Laid every day since I brought them home, not the most intelligent (on the chicken scale of intelligence) appears to be vying for the top position in the flock
These 2 are never far from each other according to previous owner have recently started laying but I don't think are responsible for any eggs yet
And the white one. Everything says leghorn except the white legs.
After some ideas for names for them, I have a list of names from the potter series of course, I just want something that suits them within the theme
