Almost forgot this one…he decided to form his chrysalis at the bottom of one of the plants instead of on the screen like all the others have:

We only have 5 left here overall and none of the adult butterflies are laying any more eggs now so it’s (almost) time for their seasonal migration…​

It’s been over a month since the black swallowtail caterpillars formed their pupae’s so it looks like they might be staying here through winter after all.

Hello!

Yes, i keep my monarchs indoors for extra protection. I let them all go after they hatch from their chrysalis. Yes, they do go through it aswell and I’ve had it happen with a few.

If the chrysalises are healthy, you can expect them to stay in there til spring.

New update from OP*

Not too much going on here lately…Just waiting for Spring ‘23. The chrysalis’s are still doing well so far…I ultimately decided not moving mine indoors this past fall/winter cause I didn’t want to interfere with their natural life cycle too much.

We’ll see what happens…

Woo! So glad to hear. Nature is pretty wonderful isn’t it? To think about basically completely rebuilding the body structure then surviving an entire winter before coming out is just so crazy cool.
