Almost forgot this one…he decided to form his chrysalis at the bottom of one of the plants instead of on the screen like all the others have:

We only have 5 left here overall and none of the adult butterflies are laying any more eggs now so it’s (almost) time for their seasonal migration…🍁:)

It’s been over a month since the black swallowtail caterpillars formed their pupae’s so it looks like they might be staying here through winter after all.

Hey @Chicken poppy , I was wondering do you keep your monarchs indoors or out and do they go through a diapause period as well?

Hello!

Yes, i keep my monarchs indoors for extra protection. I let them all go after they hatch from their chrysalis. Yes, they do go through it aswell and I’ve had it happen with a few.

If the chrysalises are healthy, you can expect them to stay in there til spring.

Please feel free to ask any other questions because i love answering them.

New update from OP*

Not too much going on here lately…Just waiting for Spring ‘23. The chrysalis’s are still doing well so far…I ultimately decided not moving mine indoors this past fall/winter cause I didn’t want to interfere with their natural life cycle too much.

We’ll see what happens…
