The BYC Book Club

Well, this thread sure has gone dead! I've been reading quite a bit lately so I thought I'd revive it, and share what I've read.

The Giver- It was ok, but not my favorite. I felt like the author dragged the story out, and then suddenly ended it right at the climax. Also, I wish the author had given the reader more of a back story. It was a quick read.
Diary of a young girl- A very interesting piece of historical non fiction. It was a bit of a sad read since I knew what happened to Anne in the end, but still interesting.
Anne of Windy Poplars- This was the first time I had read this Anne book (I had read the others, but I didn't have this one). It was a bit different feeling then the other books in the series, the author having written it years later, but it was still an excellent read, and a great addition to the series.
Jacob have I loved- I didn't care for this book much. I honestly couldn't decide whether to feel sorry for or hate the main character. The ending was also very disappointing. The reconciliation between the sisters I was hoping for never came, and to be honest the MC's character arc was kind of lame. Also the relationships between the characters were just weird.
The black arrow (by RL Stevenson)- An enjoyable, fast paced story with well rounded characters set in the 15th century.

@Chicken Girl1 @Treerooted (and anyone else who sees this) what have you been reading lately?

Awesome Millie good for you!
I can't remember if I've read the Giver or not. I know my sister owns it and I probably did read it many years ago. Read the Diary many years ago as well; I believe it's on my bookshelf somewhere.
The only book I think I've read cover to cover was The Market Gardener lol. I absolutely loved it, best thing I've read since The Small-Scale Poultry Flock. Seriously couldn't put either of those books down and I refer to them often.

Are you referring to The Market Gardener by JM Fortier? If so, it's one of my gardening family members favorite books (though I haven't read it myself) and a copy of it is sitting on our book shelf.
I love the Small-Scale Poultry flock, it's probably my #1 favorite chicken book. :thumbsup

@mymilliefleur those are great books! Thanks for reviving the thread as well. I still have to read A diary of a young girl but I have read Anne of Windy Poplars. I have been reading a lot lately. In the past two months I've read:

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier - I watched the movie a while back and was really interested in the book it was based on. In the beginning it was slow for me but after a quarter of the way I was enchanted.

Anne's House of Dreams and Rilla of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery - Just rereading because it had been awhile.

Emily's Quest by L.M. Montgomery - Another reread. I liked it better this second time around then the first, although she still can't compete with Anne.

Betsy and the Great World by Maud Hart Lovelace - Yet again another reread. This is probably my least favorite out of the Betsy-Tacy series but it is still enjoyable.

Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare - This was part of my classic reading challenge of the year, although I'm not a huge fan of Shakespeare in general I enjoyed it.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio - Although the idea for the story was sweet and charming, I found the storyline was boring and not very well written.

Betsy and the Great World by Maud Hart Lovelace - Yet again another reread. This is probably my least favorite out of the Betsy-Tacy series but it is still enjoyable.

I am currently reading The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.

Thats a great selection of books! I just reread the Anne of GGs series early last month.
The Wind in the Willows is one of my families all time favorite books.
My latest read is Across five Aprils. I've only just started it, so I'm not sure how I'll like it yet.

I know the story, because when we were younger my siblings and I would watch a cartoon version. To be honest it scarred me and that's why I've never read till now. :p
