When I went out this afternoon there were three eggs in a nest. One of the black and white (think they are siler wyndott) was pushing them around and acting like she was going to go broody on me. So I left them in the nest. When my husband came in from the last visit with the chickens he says"one loan egg today" I just looked at him and told him there were three earlier, then the kids say there were four in the nest. So he goes out and checks the oo p and run and i go out and check the coop and run and lownbehold. no eggs. No sign of eggs. we looked under everything moved everything and still no eggs. Where could they have gone? My husband says they might have eaten them do they eat there own eggs> how do we find out which one is the egg eater? Crystal

Check the nest boxes for yolk on the bedding and bits of egg shell. If the nest bedding is clean, you might have a thief like a dog or snake. I'm not sure what else, maybe skunk, will take eggs, but I know snakes will for sure.

no signs of egg at all, our dog wa out but not in the coop. isn't it too cold for snakes? How can I go about catching a snake? I told my hubby we needed one of those spy cameras ha ha C

I wouldn't think you would have to look too far for the snake if there is one I would expect it will be hanging around waiting for more eggs! Are there any nooks and crannies that a big ole chicken snake (black rat snake) could be hiding in? They are great climbers and may even be in the roof rafters or up high like that! Oh... they love chicken eggs as well as chickens so check carefully! Happy hunting... I hope you find the culprit!

I feel for you.

I've discovered my new roo I bought from egg bid is an egg eater. He cracked and ate 4 eggs in 2 days time and was searching for a 5th that we got out of the nest box before he could snack on it. Not sure if I can "cure" him of it or if he's going to make someone a nice delicacy of a meal. I have no home for egg eaters here so it'll stop or he will go.
