Ya know the more the you talk of this @Squawkers I'm thinking this is a good idea, I've had a few times I wished I was carrying something just in case.

Yeah I definitely thought about pepper spray. Do you think the bigger one is too powerful? My dog is almost 90 pounds, so I would not need to use it on any dog much smaller than that. I don’t think I’ll have to use it all, I think the sound it makes is enough to make any dog turn tail. But if I do have to use it I don’t want to kill it think it would hurt a 90+ pound dog?

That's why I either have my husband (who has a gun) or myself, (who has a knife).

Me either, plus Oakley is a little reactive already (mostly with people tho) so any close calls would be detrimental for him

Yeah, I want something at least a foot long so the dog couldn’t bit me.
That’s true, and there is a very good chance he wouldn’t recover.

I'd hate to kill an animal, but if it's going to attack me and a knife is the only effective way I have to defend myself, it's getting its throat sliced. I'd try kicking and hitting it first of course, killing is the last resort.
