What is shadow?

Lol I only have two chickens but they are seriously spoiled and we have them fixed up on our breezeway between the garage and sun porch. It's about 10x10 concrete floor and two screen doors then the doors to our porch ( where we sit most of the day cuz we got a tv and everything out there) and garage door. They have a ton of hay and shower curtain rods for perches. Well every morning I open their screen door so they can go out and try to act like chickens then I sit on porch and watch the news and drink my coffee and keep an eye on them. Well they go out and see me turn around and go to the porch and they put their heads down and run as fast as they can and beat me to the porch!

P.S. chickens don't like coffee

I also have a question... Mine are both leghorns and only a few months old. However I don't know if they are boys or girls or one of each. What comes first... Spurs, crowing, or eggs? And when approximately? I thought Pookie was a girl cuz Dano (RIP Poor guy) was already crowing and she was still peeping. But when we brought her/his (brother or sister-same eggs same mommy) home Pookie is twice as big and crowed. So I am confused now lol

I could tell my rooster was a rooster because:
1.) He was/is the runt- his body is focusing on combs/wattles, not feathers/size. (yet, he is only 6 weeks.)
2.) He is more 'protective' of the brooder. i.e. taking a defensive stance when I first get in.
3.) He already had red/dark pink wattles when he was 4 weeks- I think you would notice before a couple months.

Crowing can come anytime from 3 days to 3 months to longer. My roo hasn't crowed yet at 6 weeks. White leghorns are commercial egg layers and start laying early. 16-20 weeks.

Hope this helped!!!

This is just my 2 cents, my personal experience. It probably differs with every rooster. (both of) You might want to ask around more here for more answers.

From everything I've been reading I guess I'll just have to wait for an egg.... Or not! Lol

Well, by four months, roos have thicker legs, different coloring, ect.

So how is everybody?
