We have an herb garden and a container garden. My daughter does great with them; my thumb is a little black. ;-)

Nice! I had an herb garden last year. I'd love to try some sort of melon, but I doubt we have enough space. We did do corn last year though. :)

I want to sprout some of the corn I had for my chickens to eat and " plant" it on their area in front of their coop.
I also want to do sunflower seeds for then as well.
They already eat my herbs, so I don't have to worry about that...

I did sunflowers last year, and they loved it! I planted 18, and got some from my grandmother. It didn't last them that long, but they enjoyed it. I'm doing the pumpkins for them too, since they'll be able to save for in the middle of winter when they are crazed for fruits and veggies.

As for the black thumb....Me and my mom both have a greenish thumb...put us together and we have black thumbs! It's kinda odd. :P

Haha that's weird!!! My Dad LOVES tomatoes, so we always try to plant them in our weed-infested garden. :P Last year I tried cucumbers, garlic and chives, and wildflowers and only one wildflower grew and the cucumber took over. :P

Every year we attempt dill and cucumbers--and the cucumbers don't make it in our short growing season, but we end up with mountains of dill that we now cannot use for pickling.
Dill is great on fish and in/on eggs. I like eggs with dill, paprika, and a little garlic (most ppl don't like garlic with eggs though, if I understand correctly).

Try 5-gal buckets with about 9 holes drilled in the bottoms. I recommend Mr. Stripey (heirloom) for taste and Homestead (hybrid) for production. (I'm talking about tomatoes, BTW.)
Yeah, wildflowers. They're.....wild....like weeds you plant on purpose. lol

Did you plant all at one time? Do you think that my warmer climate and staggering the planting like a week apart might help the "harvest" last them longer?

Yeah, I just leave things alone when DD is taking care of the plants. She's had more important things to worry about lately, so... I'm on my own except I have the girls do the manual labor. ;-)

I'm hoping the dill will behave itself and stay in it's appropriate pot. :)
