Yep!! Exactly what she said. And in my coop-- they are greatly NOT appreciated... No roos around here to fertilize eggs, so what's the point for one of my hens to get cranky and stop laying??? Poor Bisquick had to free range by herself today since Boodles was laying, and Butter was broody... At least she got good bonding time with the chicks. It's when a chicken gets it into it's head that it is going to incubate eggs and hatch chicks, so they stop laying and sit on a nest for 21 days. In some coops they are appreiciated, in some, not so much.

Dumb question.... What is broody?
Cool!Good news-- I don't think Butter is broody!!! She just laid an egg-- I hope nothings wrong with her it took her like all day! She was out of the nest when I went to feed them some strawberries, and she was acting like her normal self!
Oh, I hope so! Actually, when hens lay they can act broody sometimes. I've witnesses my chooks sit in the nestbox for two or three hours, bite me when I stick my hand in, pull out thier chest feathers, and then lay an egg.Good news-- I don't think Butter is broody!!! She just laid an egg-- I hope nothings wrong with her it took her like all day! She was out of the nest when I went to feed them some strawberries, and she was acting like her normal self!
Quote: Yea, but she was doing this since late yesterday... It was CRAZY. But- fortunately she's not broody, it's official!!!![]()
