So, I have been building this coop for the past few weekends. Almost complete. Our first at bat with chickens so I have been reading up here. Just have the run to fence in. I am a project manager for a construction company so I have collected the material over time. Very little invested so far.

In regards to the fencing. I have a roll of actual fencing mesh. Any input on using that for the run. The chickens will be in the coop during the night. During the day they will be in the run. As far as predators go, I would think regular fencing would be fine.

Great job on the coop so far! it looks really nice. I’m sure your chickens will love it. I would enclose all holes and the run in 1/2 inch hardware cloth instead. It’s pedator proof and completely worth every extra penny. No worrying about dogs or raccoons, plus you’ll never find a snake hiding out it your nest boxes.

Great job. Your chickens should be very happy there. I would use 1/2" hardware cloth. Last summer we lost 2 chickens in broad daylight to an unknown predator in a fenced off enclosure. My husband had been outside just minutes prior to the attack. We were in the process of building our new coop and run and our luck ran out. I had a yard sale to earn the money to buy my hardware cloth. HTHs.

I agree hardware cloth around run and dig in in 18” at an angle away from the run . We laid ours on the grass that was mowed to 1/2” and cover it with scoops of dirt , it grew under quite fast and now we know nothings getting in. Even small birds will eat their food and poop everywhere which can bring disease.
