The chickens are scheming....we have Chickenrun in our own backyard

We went away for the weekend and left our chickens for the first time.
When we went to leave on Saturday am...the hens were all out in the run..I was convinced I locked the latch.
So, hubby and I rounded them up and together made sure that the latch was closed. We got home today and the girls were OUT!
Looks like we have an escape artist in the flock. Thank goodness we did not have a visit from any racoons....
Now if we could just teach them to lock themselves in.....
Anyone have chickens who have learned to open latches?

I close mine with twisted wire. No escapes yet.

Try using a pad lock.
