The chicks are HATCHING! (PICS PAGE 2)

3 weeks ago my button quail began to lay on 10 eggs. I was almost certain that she would never hatch them herself. I went on a trip and when I came back it was day 19 already for the button quail. I was about to toss them when I candled inside and saw beaks!! I'm so excited!

These are the 10 eggs in the next on day 5.

They've hatched!! And it was all overnight to!

They're so adorable! And one of them keeps going away from mommy!

When they all come out I'll get some good quality pics. Right now they're dark and blurry because the nest is in a box.

Well, the mom quail keeps chasing around the other 2 quail and to me it looks like she's hurting the babies.

Not on purpose, but the babies always follow her and she keeps running over them at FULL SPEED! And by full speed I mean RACECAR speed.

what adults are in the cage? sometimes you will need to separate them from mom and babies. good luck.

It's ok. It seems like the other quail know what's going on. They are staying away from the chicks mostly, but sometimes I even see them helping out!

They are cute! 6 hatched so far, and I had to help a 7th one. Mama left the nest and the babies are everywhere. Sometimes I see the other quail helping out! I put a shallow water dish and scattered some Turkey Starter. They've been eating, drinking and getting into everything

There were 3 I had to take into my incubator because they are younger than the other ones and will take another day to hatch. Originally I was going to let her do it, but she got off and has no intrest in going back to the nest.

One chick hatched in the incubator!! Its cute.

Also, bad news. It looks like 7 chicks was still too many for mama bird. One chick died from being too cold. It was black too, there weren't many black ones, but I think the black ones are the cutest.

RIP.

That's what I get for raising birds. You deal with things like this whether you like it or not.
