Yay for extra chicks!

They probably pick at random what they add to your order based on what they have extra of. I've ordered 16 chicks of one variety twice, and I've gotten two extras of the same breed both times. I have a 23 chick order coming from them in May:
6 Buff Orp Pullets
2 Buff Orp Cockerels
6 Dominiques Straight run
4 EE Pullets
5 Guineas straight run

It will be interesting to see how many extras and of what breed I get.

Oh, I just remembered.

If you check your packing receipt, you should have a check or a +1 next to the breed that they added to. My packing receipt had a +2 on it the first time and two checks next to the number for the second shipment.

I'm glad they got to you safe. Too cute. I also ordered from cackle, they are supposed to be hatched the 7th of may. I'm new to this and have never mail ordered chicks. I have been worrying about them being on in the mail. And I read a few bad reviews. But after reading your post I feel much better.

Random question when is the fear of pasty butt over? Also do I have this at the right height?

Usually 2 weeks, but keep an eye out for it. There may be something wrong if they have it after that. The heater looks to be a good height, but I normally slant mine. Lower in the back, higher in the front, so the chicks can pick how warm they want to be. Just make sure they can get out on all sides.
