Our phone rang at 4 o'clock this morning. Not an unusual happening, given my SO's job. He got up to answer it and as usual I just rolled over and went back to sleep. He related this story to me when I got up later.
After he finished the phone call, he came back to bed and tried to go back to sleep. Then he heard what sounded like a dog choking, he called it stranglin'. He immediately jumped out of bed and checked on Charlie dog, but she was fine. He went out back to check on Jake, but he was fine too. He said he gave the cat a moment's thought, but said it really didn't sound like a cat choking. He started back to bed, but then he heard it again. That's when he happened to look out the front window at the chick's pen and seen Bubba (aka Thor), my smaller rooster up on a roost crowing his heart out...or at least he was trying to crow.
He teases me by calling me his city girl, but at least I know what a "pre-crow" sounds like.
