The Chronicles of Samson: Olympic Diver

Aww poor little baby! So good of you to take her in like that! And if he continues to tolerate baths, I doubt I will stop giving him them. He always smells so nice haha. So far I haven't seen any skin or fur issues to cause me any alarm. If any arise I will certainly stop the baths post haste, but until then I think I will keep them up.

I don't think I have ever seen a Balinese before. Could you post a picture?

Wish I could find one that shows his pretty blue eyes, but here he is looking regal and then not-so-regal....smooshed by our former starving girl. Balis are pretty much long-haired Siamese and carry the same color points. He's a lilac point, which I didn't even know existed until we got our Siamese. He was born 3 weeks later and we couldn't resist. Had to make up for it by rescuing two more!

It is recommended to only bath once per week...actually every two weeks and with a mild kitten shampoo. I always loved Top Paw from Petsmart...I still use it on my big guys' faces :) even the dogs...

Once you see a problem, it is too late. Don't dry the little guy out too much. Skin problems are a bugger to clear up once they start :(

I used to use a litter that was pine derived and you could then use it as fertilizer for your garden.. however, this guy will use nothing but Fresh step crystals...he's too old, and set in his ways, to try and change now.

I will never have another cat cause my hubby is allergic and he has to stay in the basement :( It wouldn't be fair to a kitten, although I would love to have another...Sprocket is an American Bobtail and I have never had a better cat!

Adenium: Oh my goodness!! He is soo gorgeous!!!!

Leadwolf: Alright I will definitely cut back on the baths then. Maybe just a wet washcloth in between bathings to keep him from getting too crusty. And Sprocket is an awesome name!

Samson still hasn't figured out the new litter box, so this evening I am headed back to the store to get another disposable one. I think maybe the new one is just too tall.

And he has officially learned how to climb down stairs! He is also in that stage where he isn't quite mewing, but he isn't meowing either. More like a squeaky teenager

Perhaps the litter box is missing the red carpet entrance? :p

And yes, Diego is gorgeous and he knows it. DH scolds the Siamese on a regular basis, but his little deputy can do no wrong. It's a good thing he's really really cute and can revert to a kitten look in an instant, otherwise he'd be in big big trouble.

I'm sure Samson will learn Jamison's soft spots. They're such manipulative little buggers. For us, we forgive when they lay on their backs and show their big fluffy tummies....with the little rabbit paws up. We melt every time. Whiskey, as you can see above, lives in this position.

Well, Samson came within a breath of being rehomed on Saturday. And if that fight had lasted much longer I'm pretty sure I would be in need of a new home too.

Saturday morning, Jamison and I had a couple of errands that we needed to run. Samson had been consistently going in his litter box, so we decided to let him roam the house while we were out. We were only going to be gone an hour or so, and we wanted to see how he would handle it.

When we got back, everything seemed fine. He was playing around looking innocent, and the house seemed intact. We start looking in corners and under furniture to see if he had hidden any presents for us. And then Jamison moved his amp...

Five poops. Wet gooey ones. On the carpet.

I have never seen Jamison so mad. He was screaming and waving his hands around. The gist was, have "that ****** cat" rehomed in the next couple of days or he will throw us both out. It lasted for a couple hours. I pretty much alternated between fighting back and trying to placate him. He finally calmed down and went and spent some time out in the front yard while I made dinner. We were silent for most of dinner, and started to talk towards the end of the meal. He said some horrible things about how I am being irresponsible and not training him fast enough etc. That Samson is making his life harder and is a responsibility that he doesn't want. I reminded him that Samson isn't his responsibility, he's mine. And that all I am asking is that he tolerate Samson's presence in our home. That line of reasoning was getting me nowhere.

My anger and sadness finally bubbled over and I burst into tears (something I don't do often). I reminded him that I have no one in this town. Where are my friends? Who do I have to talk to? My best friend in the world has cancelled plans with me four times in a row. My old friends don't visit, don't return my calls. Apparently an hour is too long to drive. And whenever I am in their neck of the woods, they don't pick up their phone. "That ****** cat" is my only friend! Why do you think I am always talking about what my "online friends" are saying and doing!? And you know what else will make a mess of the house? Kids! Is that the next dream you expect me to give up for you? No pets. No kids. That isn't a future I want.

Needless to say, he back-pedalled really quickly. He took my hand and held me close and promised he would never ask me to rehome Samson again. He didn't realize how much Samson meant to me.

I know you all must think that Jamison is just a hard to please PITA to live with, but it's moments like that that make the bad times worth the trouble

Now, obviously I wouldn't end my marriage over a kitten. I wasn't bluffing so much as I was speaking out of pain and anger. But regardless, Samson is now here to stay. Officially. And I am one happy ChicknThief

And as you can see, he has finally mastered the stairs!

Oh my. So sorry to hear you had so much strife over the poor little guy but so happy he is now truly yours to keep. I know the feeling of isolation when friends are further away or busy and the comfort our pets can give us. If I were closer I would love to come share the pooper's hijinks with you. I love the new pics...those little round eyes....so irresistible.

Yea it was definitely a rough day. I went and got some Resolve Pet Stain remover and cleaned the carpet really well so that helped.

I have lived in Sacramento for almost a year. The only time I have seen my friends was this last January at my birthday party. And one of those friends did me the honor of drinking too much and having a screaming thrashing crying episode (that I am still not convinved was entirely real) that got so bad that everyone left before the party even got started. I have tried making plans with them, but even if they do commit, they always cancel later. I have finally given up on it. I'm tired of always being the one who has to reach out first. If they were truly my friends, the effort would be equal on both sides. Unfortunately that knowledge doesn't make life any less lonely. I have Jamison's parents, Jamison, and Samson. My whole family lives an hour and a half away and I only see them once a month if I'm lucky. Maybe I should look for a club or something lol.

Anyway, yes! It is a total breath of fresh air now knowing for sure that Samson is here to stay. And if you are ever in my neck of the woods you are more than welcome to meet the little stinker in person haha.

I just recently bought him a scratch lounge and a couple toys that he is absolutely in love with! I never knew how high his frisky potential was until I waved a peacock feather in his face

Oh! And I think he is going to keep his gorgeous blue eyes! He isn't acting like a blind fool anymore, and they are still blue....

I just love Samson :) I'm glad that you are getting to keep him, even if it took a minor war to win him :) Sometimes, men just don't think.....
