The cicadas are coming...

It's supposed to be a huge year for cicadas and I'm already seeing the little shells they leave behind when they transition to wings. I found a couple of them yesterday but wasn't sure if they were OK so I waited until I could look them up (not only are they OK, some people eat them). Fingers crossed that the chickens will like them because I'm not one of those insect-eating folks!

And if I put a gallon freezer bag of them in the freezer, is that smart planning ahead for winter or disgusting?

If the chickens like them, I would say it is free protein.

I would think it is a great idea.

Oh my hens have learned that they go to our local trees to climb and dry and meet them early in the morning every morning. They love love love them. I think they'd love you if you saved some for them for later.
