We are new to both raising chickens and forums. So I read the new member introduction and took it literally. I think it helped.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to chickens. We got our first chicks about 2 weeks ago. The we went and bought 3 silkies and 2 show girls and a package deal.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We, at present, have 2 silkie hens, 1 silkie rooster, 1 show girl hen, 1 show girl rooster, Chicks - 4 black and 4 red sex link hens, 1 each black and red sex link rooster, and 4 buff orphentons.

(3) What breeds do you have?

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My wife and I have an auction in Magnolia, MS. We are both auctioneers. Several sellers and buyers had asked us about doing a chicken auction. I began researching it and we are moving forward with it.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 3 kids, 20, 18, and surprise 13.

Thank you, I have read several post which is what lead me to join. Plus reading the post everyone seems friendly and eager to help.

I'm glad you joined our community.

Sounds like you have a nice flock with some lovely breeds! Silkies and Orpingtons in particular are usually very friendly, and the Sex-Links will be excellent layers.

You should get lots of eggs out of those sexlinks!

Great intro by the way!

Silkies and show girl hens tend to make excellent broodies. You may want to visit the Showgirl thread. I'm not certain but, I think show girl to show girl breeding can produce bald chickens. Generally show girl hens are bred back to silkies. That could be explored on the showgirl thread.
