The Coop has begun!

Thanks Rivers, it's going to be underneath about 6 inches of river sand, so hopefully even if it does rust it will keep critters out?

So far materials have cost us about $870. We got the windows at the Habitat Restore, and the wood was on sale. We got the wire from Kijiji, and the shingles were donated from a neighbour. (I saw them doing their roof and said "Hey! Got any extra shingles?")

We think it will be about $1000 when we are done. I sold one of our heifers to pay for this coop, and I think in the end it was worth it.

Beautiful coop!! I'd leave out the weed cloth all together. The chickens will take care of anything trying to sprout in the run. They will certainly scratch down to the weed cloth and tear it up, probably eat pieces of it.
Love all your details. Good workmanship too!! No, you don't need another step at the top of the ramp and yes, roosts across from the nest boxes and higher than them will be perfect!!
