Hey guys! This is the coop I plan on building for my six Rhode Island Reds. I found the plans on TS website (http://www.tractorsupply.com/content/knowhow/chicks/little-big-barn-coop) and would love someone to look at the coop and tell me what they think. Thanks for the help. (New to owning Chickens.)
Very sharp! I think I need to do some decorative paint on mine...I just slapped on white because I had planty and needed to get the wood sealed, but man is it stark looking!
The only problem I see is there is a lack of ventilation. From what I've seen in researching, even cold climates need a large vent area to prevent chicken lung damage from the ammonia in waste. 1 square foot per chicken, is what I read, even though that sounds like quite a lot to me!
If you cover the vent with hardware cloth, you can always use a sheet magnet to block it or partially block it (they are inexpensive, and you can even paint a design on them!) You could also incorporate a ridge vent with that design.
