She seems to be growing and getting enough with just regular food. Should I still do a wet mash to be safe?
A normal beak is shaped to be able to pick up crumbles, crossed like hers is, she will have a difficult time picking up food and over time she can become malnourished, weak, even sick. She will definitely eat more and enjoy eating if the food is dampened, when it sits all lumpy when damp, (not sloppy like oatmeal) she doesn't need both mandibles to come to together, she can just shovel it in. Right now it may appear she is eating well but most of it is probably not making it into her mouth. Let me tag a gal that has a crossbeak.... @Liz Birdlover

That makes sense! Thank you so much! I will make some wet mash for her in the morning and make sure she has access before all the other girls!

Hi guys! Newbie here! This is my first chicken adventure. We currently have four chicks. A BCM, cream legbar, rainbow layer and olive egger. They are all around 5 weeks old! So happy to be here and learn all things chicken 🐓
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Definitely new to chickens! Just got our girls about 5 weeks ago.

(3) What breeds do you have?
BCM, Cream legbar, rainbow layer, Olive egger

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far I absolutely love going out and watching my girls! They are so funny and curious.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have two young girls. One is six the other is two so I don’t have much time for hobbies haha. I do love to read!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two little ladies! We have a cat, dog and four chickens! Fun fact: our last name is COOP. How fitting right? 🐓
Welcome. It is very cute about your last name. I have a few disabled hens. One I have to feed 5-6 times a day.
