I guess it depends on the instrument and how long you play. If you never get past the beginner stage any instrument can be boring. (Not that I'm saying you were a beginner at this instrument you played. )

I've been playing piano for, oh, maybe six-seven years. I'm loving it lots now that I can play longer, more complicated music.
