oooohhhhh! Miss my donkey! Am actually considering getting another, not sure if I will try for a baby or adult. I got Eeyore about 15 years ago to help keep dogs out of my completely field fenced property that were digging under and chasing my mare and colt. Worked great. Except he had been abused (vet said thing they used him as a teaser , as he had scars under chin and was gelded right before I got him and he was 8-12 then. He also had been foundered probably , and suffered with feet problems thereafter. ( I learned natural trimming and took a year before I could handle his feet well . He also was a biter and got him to quit over time,(90% anyway...) never quite trusted him with total strangers and learned not to let him Ever mouth you... But he had a good life here. just lazing around with 3 or 4 horses. Sadly, I found him dead near the barn, not a bruise or mark on him on Christmas day last year. He was at least 25 maybe... don't know what happened...
Really miss that bray. I am 60 now , but in perfect health and have a small mini farm and raise Ducks and Geese, and have my 20+ yr old arabs... but I miss the donkey! Just want to make sure I don't get one with foot problems again. I only feed hay, some pasture and only alphalfa oat pellets in winter to one horse... NO grain! studied a lot about what sugar does to horses and donkeys (and hubby Was type 2 Diabetic/Metabolic syndrome and after son in Med school telling us about Dr. Fung on You tube videos, we learned about going Low Carb diet...and after 15 years hubby lost the stubborn weight and got off the Meds!) But I digress...am going to start searching for another Donk! Being frugal, I may wait till I can find someone who just wants a good home for a well mannered/healthy one.....it's not the feed and shots , it's the Vet that is the killer to your pocketbook.)
