I have 2 khaki Campbells, make and female along with 9 hens. All raised together since they were babies. They're over a year old now. They've been doing well together til sometime in the past 2 weeks or so when the drake has been attacking the chickens. Not wanting to Mate but just attacking them. He's always attacked our dog but its never been much of an issue coz the dog would just sort of swat or gently nip at him to stop but this is the first time he's taken to attacking our chickens and it isn't pretty. They all free range and it doesn't matter how far apart they are, when he somehow gets it into his head to attack the chickens, he will from across the yard. Help?

Is he actually hurting the chickens or just gabbing their wing or feathers. My ducks do this to the chickens but no one get hurt. Drakes and hormones make them do crazy things.

He'd pin them down and some of my chickens now are looking like they have they have plucked feathers. I'm sure he had plucked feathers in because the chickens fight back.

I believe I'd make a separate pen for this drake and his mate so the chickens can live in peace.

Thanks! I was hoping that its just a phase. We do have a portable chicken tractor that I can put the ducks in. (They're already in separate quarters when they get penned up at night)

Some drakes are just hard core stinkers. I have one I call the Gustavo [the German police] don't know if I spelled it correctly, but that's who he reminds me of, he has to make everyone's life miserable. LOL. You may see him calm down once mating season is over in the fall you'll just have to see how it goes then.
