Most often, the way to a drake's heart is through his…..wait…. the second best way to a drake's heart is through his stomach. So, patience and treats may help. Some of it is personality. Did you just get the drake, or have you raised him from a little one?

Many ducks NEVER like being held. You can still tame any duck, though.

I hope you do too. Let us know how it goes.
Thank you.

Hello all! My little crested babies are a month old now, and they are SUPER chubby and fluffy and adorable

We've been raising them in our living room, so they're the friendliest little babies ever. Here's baby Afro, the smallest of the four:

You can feel pin feathers under their down, and they have feathers on their butts... two are slightly older than the others and they have some feathers on their bellies. I've been putting them outside when it's not too cold, but my question is this: will pointing a fan at them help them grow in their feathers more quickly? These babies are getting HUGE and I'm due to have my first human baby on January 4th.... it would be nice to speed the process along

Thanks!!!
Precious!

If anyone remembers my issue with the neighbor's two ducks coming and eating my food, as of tonight it looks like the drake has permanently moved in. His female is nowhere to be found. For some reason Hershey, my drake, is now tolerating him. I don't mind him staying, but it was better when he brought his girlfriend with him - now my ratio is two drakes to one duck
hmm.png
And I can't fix it until spring - I practice biosecurity and no grown birds come here without extensive quarantine (except for these two ducks, who have proven to be disease free, thank goodness) that I can't do this time of year so I can't buy adult ducks, even if I were able to find them this time of year. I'll get some female ducklings to balance things out, but not until spring. So hopefully the low amount of daylight hours cools the drakes' libidos until then. Or Hershey protects Sugar from the new drake - I don't think he'll want to share anyway.
He knows it's better at your place. I hope his girl shows up.

The last time he came to visit was without her too

But he's been calling for her all day - I think he's lonely. Hershey is 'tolerating' him to the extent that he's allowed to share the run and coop. If he tries to get close to Sugar Hershey chases him away. When I was just out there hauling water I think I may have heard some quacking in reply to him, but she's nowhere to be seen. Not sure if perhaps the neighbors have thrown her in a pen and she can't get out or what. Maybe she'll turn up, fingers crossed.

I've got to go make pies now for tomorrow. HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!

Well i thought my duck was molting or something cuz she just stopped laying! I found maybe 3 eggs, one at a time over this dry spell of hers! Them tonight i go out to close up the coop everybodys all nestled in but one...i was missing one of my sebright hens! So i look all over the coop and find this...
400

My sneaky lil quackers has been hiding her eggs from me! I found my sebright hen too...she was in one of my sons live traps behind the coop! Lol! Poor baby girl even laid her eggs in there! She'll be ready to eat in the morning!

None of my ducks like to be held but one and he was raised by me. So your new duck may never like to be held or even touched but he may warm up to you enough to hang out with you. mine love for me to go out with the shovel and dig worms for them[I just have to watch those webs since they like to help] I wouldn't be trying to touch and pet or hold him unless necessary. Let him warm up to you.
