The Duck Thread

I live in teague tx and I'm having trouble finding a hatchery close by. I have three Black runners I got from tractor supply I'm almost 100% positive my Bandit is a Drake. Spaze and Lucky are both Ducks. I think they are around three weeks old. What do you think?

I used Ideal in Cameron, The ducks I got were really healthy, bouncing around. As you can see, they are growing!!! I picked mine up in the pouring rain! Take a pretty drive and look at the wildflowers. They are beautiful this time of year!

this is what the AC looks like. to me it looks like the duck has not broken through or moved into the AC

this is where she/he is pipping from, the side. The lowest part of the AC is on the other side of this egg. I just think she is a little malpositioned. she is not upside down.
I peeled back some membrane and I saw red veins, which means the veins still have blood flowing through, correct?
I stopped and blotted the membrane w/a damp papertowel and put her back in the bator. she is breathing and pipping (trying to hatch).
should i just keep watch and wait.?
my Q is, if she has not broken through the AC, she doesnt have enough room to move around and get out, correct?

Keep your humidity high. She has an external pip so she can breathe. Give those veins time to recede.

After waiting for the veins to receed, if he/she isn't making progress try helping to peel LITTLE by little. If ANY bleeding is seen, immediately wrap it in a damp paper towel and put it back in the incubator for half an hour to an hour. One time has passed, try again. Good luck! :D

Your boys are handsome!  If you haven't mixed duck sexes before, I would get them at least 6 girls - 8 would be better.  It is possible to have a happy flock with the drake to hen ratio higher than 1:4, but it requires very mellow drakes and tons of space (acres). My current drake to hen ratio is 1:5 and I have issues with an overly competitive drake.  Once my current brood joins the flock my ratio will be 1:6.5 (Yup - 15 ducks and 2 are drakes) I am hoping the one drake will mellow out some then, otherwise it might be 1:13 :/ .

That's about how many I was planning to get but it's going to be tricky as the only place around here that sells them is over an hour away. They'll be babies I worry about having to take them for such a long drive. Also need to find out how (when they're old enough) I should introduce them to each other.

thank you very much for the reply and the advice. i a still seeing red veins on the underside of the thick & rubery whitish membrane.
I think what happed is she/he was trying to move into position and she broke the shell, but she did not bread through the thick membrane and then i saw that she had piped in the wrong place so i assisted (put a little hole in the membrane) to let some oxygen in.
As of this morning she has moved into the AC, a tiny bit, i think she is shrinkwraped and cant move much.
I will do as you suggested. she is on day 26, so she is early. And that is her name now, Early...
thanks again for responding. I appreciate you.
