X2! I raised chickens most of my life, and they just don't have the charisma or personality that ducks have. There are few things sillier and more fun to watch than a happy duck. I'll never go back! :p

I agree! Poultry make wonderful companions. I've just seen a lot of flighty ducks...people need to handle their animals more! BTW--I love your avatar! I think Muscovies are cute and the background is nice too :)

Thanks for the compliment Opie is my imprinted drake his mama tried to kill him when he hatched so my dh and I raised him in the house, He really thought he was one of our dogs. still comes in to visit. he'll be 4 this June. I don't really "handle" my water fowl that much other than Opie ducks/geese aren't real happy about being pick up, but I do spend alot of time with them and we enjoy hanging out together.

Lol! Cute! Is 4 years old for a duck? I'm not sure how long ducks live, I'm guessing a little longer than chickens do. My chickens aren't always happy with being picked up, but they have to put up with me anyway [IMG]

I gave myself 4 KCs as a Christmas 2014 present. They live with 18 chickens and 2 roosters who they immediately let know that Ducks are at the top of the order and they are hilarious. I spend way too much time watching their antics. They love being sprayed with the hose and swimming in their pool. It’s like having 4 Donald Ducks out there. They are worth the investment if only for the entertainment value.

Too many eggs? Hard boil then smash the eggs and shells together and offer them as a high protein calcium packed treat for your poultry.

BTW the local Fire Station will happily take your extra eggs.

Ducks are so cool. Watch this and giggle:

LOL! [IMG] Yeah, I'll have to think about it, the problem is: I raise bantams only, and most ducks would be too big for them.

I don't think 4 yrs old is old for a duck, I have a pretty old drake he will be 11yrs old next month I pick up my chickens and love on them too. can't say they like it all that much either.

I have 4 bantams and they do fine with my Muscovy's they do have to stay out of the way of the geese though, but so does everything else out in the yard.

Wow! 11 years is old! Our oldest chicken is...4. Taming poultry can be really hard, I know. My birds can be perfectly tame, but if I don't work with them for a few weeks, they get flighty again [IMG] But, oh well, I try to make time to hold them anyway [IMG]
