The Duck Thread

@jtn42248 That's what I thought too. Momma Cayugas eggs were jet black, the first few. I wasn't sure though, given that my Cayugas are swedish blue crosses. That's a gorgeous dozen you've got there!
Off the duck egg subject, what kind of pup in your avatar???
That is my best friend and protector Duke. He is an Anatolian/Lab mix that was found as a puppy dumped in the country. He spent his first year living alone in a cage with little or no human interaction until our Vet discovered him and rescued him. We were at the Vet one day with another of our dogs and they brought him out just to show him to us and it was love at first sight. He trotted up to me, stood up on his hind legs and gave me a big paw on shoulders hug and kisses. We took him home with us that day and he and I have been inseparable since. Right now he his laying on the foot of my bed watching me type. He weighs about 120 pounds and is solid as a rock. I am about 6 feet tall and on his hind feed he is about a foot or so taller than me.

Duke is a stunner! I'll never understand how a person can be so cruel to dump an animal. I'm thankful every single day for my pups! Amazing creatures!

My Cayugas or mallards first eggs maybe both.... They're a grayish light blue!!!
So cool! Getting eggs is so egg-citing!

Miss Lydia here is the Scovy with the geese today she is beginning to join the gaggle a lot more it is funny watching her with them

Also the wild ducks are coming back
You know everyone needs a family, if they will accept her I think that is awesome. My gander was hatched by a Muscovy duck and he lived with them only till he was over 5 yrs old, I really think he though he was a giant Muscovy. lol Now he has his own family and doesn't like the ducks so much
Cool are the wild ducks Mallards?

I would lean more to them being Mallard eggs, especially if they have a blue tint to them. Cayuga eggs, especially the first few, will have more of a grey to black with a bit of khaki green. Here is a picture of the first dozen Cayuga eggs my girls laid. The longer they lay the lighter the eggs get until they are a sort of dirty chicken egg white.
My Cayuga only laid off white eggs. None of them were viable only one out of 18 eggs started developing but died early... I'm wondering if she is old. Also her chest looks big but she is acting normal

Today is day 21 for my chicken eggs, I was really hoping that at least one of my duck eggs would hatch

now I'm thinking about buying fertile duck eggs but not sure where

Thanks for the photo. I'm expecting my Cayuga, and all the other breeds, to start laying any time. I'm hoping I can tell who's who in eggs! I can tell my KC & Pekin but they are from a different flock and have been laying for about 4 months. The soon to be layers are another Pekin, Cayuga, WH and two Runners.
