The Duck Thread

All 9 ducklings are about 5 to 5.5 months old, the reason i am worried is they and the chickens get into feather pulling matches just so they can eat the feathers. I have been worming my chickens separatly with strike lll to take care of their worms, but its pretty much them all standing on the porch 2 hours
before feed time all calling for food. Got 2 feed blocks completely eaten in two days, and there is plenty of grass and bugs to eat though the recent cold
spell here has kicked all of them into eating overdrive. My drake when he was young did had gape worm, but that was a while ago and haven't seen any
symptoms of it since.

What do you mean by block of food? My 5 girls and 3 chickens go through 50lbs of food about every 3 weeks. They pigged out while I was gone and we had a cool few days and we went through 50lbs of food in 2 weeks. At 5 months old they are adults and don't need as much food but I don't know what would cause the feather eating. Do you offer any other vitamins or oyster shell since they should be coming up on laying?

Out ranging for grass, mud or whatever it is they eat.

The roo is going to go soon, he's starting to crow!

The dabbling in mud is a favorite thing. Are they eating bugs and stuff down in the mud?

Hi I just need some advice. I had 3 welsh Harlequin eggs and only one hatched. Now I only have one lonely baby duck. what do I do now? I have looked and the only ducks I can purchase are 3 week old Muscovy ducks should I go ahead so the little guy has some company?

How old is your duckling? if you introduce through some kind of netting or fencing in the brooder so your little one isn't picked on or stepped on by the older ducklings they should all eventually accept each other.

What breeds of ducks are in the same weight class of Pekins? So I know what kinds of ducks I can get as company for my JoJo?!?
Muscovy's too some like them some don't. I love em but they are the only breed of duck I have had . quiet too but they will fly so might need a wing clipped to stay home. Easy to do though.

They maybe need some extra protein I always heard feather eating is a protein dif. I give my ducks and chickens so good quality dog kibble for some extra protein especially during molt growing feathers is hard on them and giving a little extra protein is helpful also Poultry Nutri Drench in their water a couple times a week. My ducks and chickens get 1/2 cup of kibble as a treat daily I hand feed this too them they love it. Some also use cat kibble. I have 16 chickens and 9 ducks so it's not alot of extra but does give them a bit of extra protein .Beautiful group of ducks. Are you talking about the Flock blocks? I don't think they are meant as complete food source are they, aren't they just an extra like a large treat especially in winter when foraging isn't an option.

I need to read up on Muscovy. I thought they were much smaller than that. I don't know much about them except that you have to hose them off the roof at night to get them to go to bed.
