The Duck Thread

Hi,

This might be a silly question but this evening I was watching my ducks and one started flapping her wings and kept going for like a good 7-8 seconds. O.K not a long time but much longer than their usual 2 second flaps when they wake up or get out of the pond. Then the second one did the same thing.

They are Indian Runner, both Females.
I don't see a question .

But yeah, they do that

I used to have an Indian Runner, they flap to try to catch air and "fly", mine used to run up and down the yard trying to catch the wind and fly! lol

OHH!!! SOOO CUTE!! WHat kind are these duckys? (I've always been an advocate for DUCKS over CHICKENS, because ducks seem to have SO much personality, they are So fun to watch, they swim like adorable little swimmers, LOVe ducks!)

I was just wondering if this was normal. I have never had ducks before so everything I see them do, I have no idea what's going on.

.
I call it the "I'm okay wing flap."

haha.lol. O.K thanks. So they are fine.

I just got my first ducklings three weeks ago they are starting to feather now. They grow up soooo fast. They are mallards. I know this is a way off but I don't know what sex they are. If I have more drakes I was thinking about re homing the females. Is it bad to not have a female for they boys will they still fight or get for lack of a better term sexually frustrated? I can't just get more females BC I live in the city and six is the limit. Like I said long way off since idk what I have yet but want to be prepared

A good number of people have a boys' club and they do fine as long as there are no females within 50 feet (some say) or farther.

Females have a loud voice. My runners' voices started changing at about three weeks of age.

Thanks amiga. I think one of my ducks voices are starting to change. How soon till I have mating behavior between them if I have both males and females. I don't want any of the ducks to be if I do end up with more drakes

My runners started playing hop on top at about twelve weeks, with the first egg at 16 weeks, 4 days, and everyone was laying by 20 weeks.

Thanks good to know I have some time. It just sucks I hate to get rid of any because I've wanted ducks for years now but their well being comes first hopefully there's more duck owners around the Cleveland Ohio area than I know if I have to rehome some mallards. Although I am open to trading.
