The Duck Thread

I'm in need if some assistance please. I have a swim pool for my ducks now but still have a small tub of fresh clean water for them to drink from but oooh nooo will they drink from it. nup they just dirty it in literally seconds. When I empty it out there is either mud or poo at the bottom. (why one earth are they pooing in it?). How can I battle this? Also when I clean it out then refill it there is almost like an oily film left on top of the water, it not from my water as the hens water is fine it only happens with the ducks. Is this O.K? Hope Anyone Can Help Me, Thanks.
My cayuga does the same thing.i think they do it for the grit.feedstores sell a water gravity dish that helps some, but unfortunately, ducks are a filthy beast lol

LOL...Cayuga ducks are rather oily, so when they bathe, they will leave an oily film on the water surface. I have Muscovy, not as oily, but can be just as messy with their drinking water. I also have a pond for them, and a bin I fill with water so that they can drink in the pen. I was able to keep them from getting in the water by going to Home Depote and buying two small floating planters (the black ones), like $2 each. At first I had plants in them, but they went to town on the plants and muddied up the water. I took the plants out and only have the floaters in there, and so far it has worked! They do not get into their water, but the floaters move arond to allow their heads in. It still gets a little dirty, due to needing to drink water when they eat their feed. But, the water lasts cleaner much longer than before. Good luck!

Does any one know what happens if you have two ducks sitting on the same clutch of egg because bothe my Mascovy and my cayuga are sitting on 24 eggs but they are the cayugas eggs but my Mascovy sits on a lot of them because she is bigger will they share the ducklings out or will the ones they the Mascovy hatches be hers and the ones that the cayuga hatches be hers please help if you can

P.S Do ducks lay eggs all year long?
I have 2 Blue Swedes and 1 Mallard and 1 black and white"I don't know what"! 3 Are hens and they have laid all year since they started laying although the vet told me the less light they have, especially during the winter months, that it would cut down the laying! WRONG! I get 2 white and 1 blue egg every day and have for quite some time!
