The Duck Thread

@GAIL328

Yes, she is my only duck. She is imprinted and is aggressive toward other ducks and even other animals. She get's extremely jealous and doesn't relate to other ducks due to the heavy imprinting on humans. But she's great with people. Today I was at the park with her, my dog, and my friend and she made friends with a little boy. She was very gentle with him, which surprised me. Me and her make friends everywhere we go.

What kind of ducks are the boys? One looks Mallard on the body and the black one looks like my Black Swede! They are very pretty,love my ducks too!! Your girl is sooooo pretty!

I believe he is a Rouen he's too big to be mallard but the black one has a white tummy and white tipped wings I'm not sure what he is....

She looks like she has recovered well.

Yes very much so im so happy she is ok

I haven't posted in a while. I have 5 ducks all are 5 months old, 2 pekin (male and female) and 3 mallard (2 male 1 female). We have a lab who is a proven chicken killer and almost killed one of my drakes. I was wondering about maybe getting a goose to be a "rooster" or a protector over my flock. I have a 3 month old kitten that is already trying to pounce on them when they aren't in their pen. Has anyone ever used a single goose to protect their flock? Will it attack the ducks? Will it protect them once they bond, or will it just flee away?

While I don't have a goose, I have heard of them protecting ducks. I hope a goose-duck person checks in soon.

Meanwhile, are you protecting the females from all those drakes? I am a little concerned. I know you care about the ducks. I have read about serious injuries and death. Not to upset you, but to protect the ducks.

Well their not laying yet and so no mating. Plus they've been together since they were a few days old and the drakes are non-aggressive.

A goose is no protection at all from a dog a dog/dogs can kill a goose and an instant. I have 2 geese and about all they can do is sound an alarm and actually they aren't that good at doing that, everyone mostly relies on the 2 roosters I have. Now it could put a hurtin on a kitten or cat. And if raised with ducks will bond with them. My gander bullied my dog until she turned on him thank goodness I was there and stopped it but, geese are big bullies and have to be taught to respect you first as leader then who ever else human in your family they will be in contact with then the dog/s If not they will harass everyone they can.
