Reading thd posts about colours, I got 3 runners, and have found that it varies quite a bit throughout the year based on what they are eating.
mine are about 2.5yrs old and we bought them as p.o.l. yhe first year they started laying January. Last year it was March. Not started this year yet

The lady I got my Muscovies from told me black girls are rare because she had never had one out of all her clutches she ever had but I got one I was just curious if anyone knows
Very pretty Scovy's I'm thinking she is talking about the color because it's the color of the wild Scovy, called wild type. I have one thats blk except for his wing tips which is how the wild look, and of all the ducklings hatched here have never gotten one like him.

Hi everyone, I live in central Africa and have had Muscovys for some time now and have had a lot of success with three ducks hatching and raising their ducklings. My black-and-white duck has hatched four clutches since January 2013. Unfortunately, my chickens and turkey hen like her nest and usually lay their eggs and brood with her. As a result the nest ended up with an assortment of chicken, duck and turkey eggs of which the chicken eggs were eaten and the duck and turkey eggs left to hatch. Needless to say, it wasn't very successful and the duck ended up with only one duckling which the chicken mothered. Fast-forward three months...

Yesterday afternoon and again at dawn this morning, I found my three young Muscovy females attacking the three-month old duckling . The three young adults had the duckling on its back and were pecking at its head. Yesterday afternoon, once I chased the trio of ducks away, the duckling righted itself and skedaddled. This morning, it was noticeably weaker and I had to right it myself. I've now isolated it from the other ducks (as I suspect it was also attacked during the night). The duckling, does not appear to be sick, although it is weak (possibly due to its abuse) and hasn't shown any interest in eating this morning.

So, has any one else had such an experience and does anyone have any thoughts on why a trio of ducks will set upon a 3-month old duckling that they've lived with since it was a hatchling?

All my birds live together in a largish walled compound of about 200 square meters behind my house.

I have had a similar experience this past summer my pekins were only babies and I never thought about it and put then in the pen with Maynard my Rouen who was already full grown he tried to kill them and he some what succeeded because we ended up having to put one down because she was broken they do it because they think by killing the young the mother will mate again and even for the mothers they don't remember they sat on it so it's just a intruder to there home unless mother and baby r never seperated but even still things can get ugly

Back to the black Muscovy I have one black female who does have alittle bit of white and three black boys also with alittle white I will post pics later today I am curious if I will get more black girls the black and brown r my favourite ones no offense to the white haha

Welcome, Njinja,

I have seen reports of these things on this forum. Apparently, ducks are unpredictable in that way. I am not entire sure why, but some ducks will be good broodies, then kill the ducklings. And it seems typical for youngsters to be bullied or worse when they are brought into a flock.

The advice I see is keep them separated by fence until they are adult size, and supervise introducktions.
