My wood ducks are really scared of my and freak out when I come near. So my question is can they be too stressed to mate? Also do they like to hide in monkey grass and ferns?

Do you have their box ready for them, looks like they need a box above ground to nest in, They will probably mate they just won't do it while your around. My wood ducks are really scared of my and freak out when I come near. depends were they covered in water? then probably not bacteria can enter into shell when they have laid in water. and as far as how many eggs before a duck goes broody? we'll only she knows that, some are happy with 4 others 24 so best to just let her keep laying till she is satisfied with the # then if it's more than you feel you want her to have take out till it's to your liking it won't matter to her as long as she has some to brood, and none will begin to develop till she begins to sit 24/7. Make sure she has a nice secure pen to brood in with plenty of clean fresh bedding out of water.Hi
My duck eggs got wet will they hatch??
After how many eggs does a duck gets broody??
Please HELP........
Great news.. hope all goes well. keep us updated on her progress and how the reintro goes.Update on the duckling...I got some vitamins (I give them fairly often already, so I didn't think that could be the problem) and the duckling is much better. It still wobbles a bit, so I'll keep it apart a little longer. Since I have a long weekend coming up, I might try to reintroduce it to the flock while I'm there to keep an eye on developments. Thanks!
