The Duck Thread

Maybe they mean "how can you tell when a duck is broody?"
That's what I thought when I read it anyway lol.
Aha!

If that's what we are after, then I can think of a few things.

Grumpy - fussy - neck scrunched down - feathers fluffed out a little - running around with head down, mouth open - plopping down on top of a nest with eggs, refusing to move, hissing if you get near her. Sitting and sitting on the nest, flattened a little bit over the eggs.

Once or twice a day, getting up, dashing out, making a huge stinky poop, drinking, eating, maybe running around like crazy, then back on the nest.

Hahahahaha
My duck layed nine eggs and she is not sitting on them??
What breed? some breeds just don't have the broody gene anymore. Plus it just might not be time yet for her inside broody clock to be working. Might depend on where you are in this world too, spring is usually when the broodiness kicks in.

Fake eggs. Some people use golf balls but I don't know if a duck would be fooled since the size difference is so great. The idea is to remove all eggs then when she finally does go broody you give the freshest eggs to put under her so they have the bales chance to hatch.
You'll also want to make sure she doesn't have too many eggs when she begins sitting because damage (crushing from being overcrowded) or other problems can result from the duck being unable to cover them all.
