The Duck Thread

My Pekin duck is about 8 weeks old and when I reach down into his brooder to refill food and water he acts very afraid like I'm going to hurt him and he shoves himself in the corner and does the peep/quacking thing. Could someone please help me figure why he is doing this?

Duckie is everything I had hoped for -

At what age can my ducks move out side? They are about 6 weeks old and sleeping in the garage with a 60 watt bulb. When I'm home I turn them out and they play in the creek and yard. They are almost completely feathered out.

Age is only part of it. Do they have safe shelter? How cold is it at night? What kind of shelter (including night temperature) will they have?

Temps are in 50's at night now. Yes I lock up all my poultry at night in their houses. I would put them in my d'Uccle bantam coop were they can see my other ducks. I have a goose on a nest in duck house. I will give them a raised bed of hay to sleep on. That is separated from the adult duck bed by chicken wire.

how will you keep them safe from the adult chickens? Chickens are much more aggressive with pecking order and strangers than ducks are.
