Oooo no, poor Ebony    Sounds like a win win for her and the goslings and you too! Wishing her a speedy recovery.  Any word on how Howard is doing at his new home?

Right now Howard is a hero. My sister has a mean hen that beats up their pair of 12 week old goslings and runs them off food. Howard put that mean girl in her place and she hasn't molested the goslings since he arrived. So, so far so good.

If Ebony is still in my nursery when I bring home the ducklings, is it OK to put them with her? She is not aggressive as all, and the goslings are smuggling up to her. So what do you guys think?

I think about all you can do is let her rest, hopefully that's all she needs. I have one that hasn't been able to walk since last Friday she limped then, she is in a pen by herself where she can see everyone and vise versa, today she is showing a bit of improvement, I'm still not sure whats going on with her, when I soaked her she laid and egg the next morning but still wouldn't put weight on her leg and foot, then she got pool time yesterday and this morning she laid again, and is now putting a tiny bit of weight on her leg. I'll keep her up till she is 100%, they can sure make us worry. Glad at least her and your goslings are getting along. so she has company. 

Keep me posted on how your girl is doing. I hope she and Ebony make full recoveries soon.

All you can do is try, because the gosling may attack the ducklings, very hard to tell what may happen but I wouldn't put them in there and walk away even for a minute. and Thanks Starfire, so far a little more progress this afternoon at least she is standing some which she hasn't done for the last 3 days.

I am trying to get the goslings accepted by the older geese. Half of the older ones are OK with the new babies, but the 3 suspected males are attacking them. It's really strange, cause those same 3 also attack anything close to the nursery and come running when the babies sound off. So I think they are confused more than anything. I am going to keep at it, the babies should be spending their days with the other geese. I hate having to pen them in their playpen, they need to run with their flock mates. But not until I am sure they will be safe with them. Once Snow accepts them he will protect and defend them just like he does with the other goslings with him.

I think Ebony has a hip injury. She just won't put weight on that leg, and when we pick her up the leg dangles. She can move the leg and spread her toes, but using it to walk is too much for her. I have her very pampered right now, food on one side, water on the other so she don't have to get up. She gets soaks and supervised swim time, and she swims fine. She gets carried everywhere she goes, she is getting to be very spoiled right now. Lol.

My ducks are coming tomorrow and when they come should I put there heads in the food or water first?(I know they need there food wet)

I'm not sure about putting the little ones with her. Like you, I will watch for others to answer

Not sure, either she jumped out of the pool wrong or having some trouble with egg laying [she is 7 yrs old and has never had problems before] or our old drake 10yrs old smashed her . Just don't know, she came out of her stall she shares with her sister limping. So what ever happened must have happened the day before. To see her standing today and walking a little was such a relief.

They will accept them it just takes time... Ebony sounds like where Emmie was she would hold her leg and foot limp but when i'd put her in water she would use it fine, that's the importance of water therapy they can use the leg without putting stress on it. Hopefully with your TLC she'll start improving in the next couple days.

This is a little something I learned about black vultures and I must say from the photo I cannot tell if this is a turkey vulture or black vulture.

I was told that occasionally black vultures will attack smaller animals. Let me see if I can find a reference for that. I just would not want to assume these large birds are incapable of taking another duck.
