The Duck Thread

I have 2 pekin ducks that are going to turn 1 year old on Monday! They are my little angels and I'm so thankful that I got to give them a loving home they deserve.

Ok question for my fellow duck lovers.. when y'all had the baby ducklings what did y'all use to cut down the smell of the ducks cage ... I'm asking cause the smell is killing my allergies and last night I broke out in a rash itching

sweet pzd- that or a little lime, just be careful with how much you use :)

What you feed them has a huge impact on the smell. Some people swear by fermented feed, I don't use it 'cuz we have a big black mold problem up here in the northwest and I just don't wanna risk it no matter how well-ventilated the storage bins are.

So all I do is make sure I keep them clean. I spot-clean as often as I can, change the bedding once a day and keep the refuse in a sealed garbage bin. You know, those sleek round foot-pedal kind? It traps in the stink and makes changing the garbage bags a breeze!

Can I raise my ducklings and chicks in the same brooder?

It can be done, but it's not worth the extra effort, IMO. You gotta be super diligent in cleaning it out each and every day because ducks are VERY messy and baby chicks need to keep dry, or else risk contracting bumblefoot or some other malady associated with being kept in a wet, mucky environment.
