The Duck Thread

Thanks! Twice a week will be easy to remember. I have another question. I've recently noticed my ducks kind of talking to each other face to face and they're actually touching bills a bit. It doesn't appear angry or aggressive in any way. It's actually kind of cute. Have you seen this before? I don't usually intervene when they're interacting, but if this is showing dominance or could escalate, I'll try to nip the behavior now.
That is cute Debs that they talk to each other like that. And I am glad it isn't aggressive in appearance. John (my friend) says his Pekin does it to her pal the WH all the time and it is never aggressive. Just jabbers in her face.

Answer this question for me. Why are ducks so cute? I can't get enough of them.

LOL...ducks are SO cute to get us to love them and out of that love comes the nurturing. It's a win/win.

Thanks again!

@Julie Bird - can you imagine her place? Would love to see all the action! My four are growing up & experiencing new things. Yesterday they all chased a butterfly. Very cute!! On Monday we were in the pen for pool time and I was messing with my phone. An airplane flew over and they all flattened themselves out like pancakes. When I'm paying closer attention as planes fly over, they just look at me (still standing). I tell them it's okay & they go on about their business as usual.
You just sent me into lots of loud laughter over this one Debs. It's the way you write stuff that is entertaining. I love them chasing the butterfly. SO Sweet. Hugs and kisses for everybody.

Flattened out like pancakes. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. How cute is that!!! I am glad it was a plane and not something threatening. But they know what to do. Their instincts kick in. It is sweet they look to you for guidance and if you tell them things are ok, they understand. I have said and will always say that ducks are very intelligent.

Yay! I've returned the favor by giving you giggles. LOL...I literally laughed out loud at them. Who knew they could make themselves so flat!? They are definitely smart and thank God for their instincts.

Whay a busy day!! Had the best hatch ever! 15/15 ducks. These are my own. Purebred Pekin and Cayuga drakes over Cayuga, Buff Orp, Khaki and Blue Swedish hens.
5/5 maran x chicks. These are the strangest batch of chicks. Thought they would all be maran looking but got a yellow chick, a brown chick, a chipmunk chick and 2 maran chicks. A couple are not as strong as i had hoped. Not sure if they will all make it.
Then i went out to check my sitting muscovy hen and she had killed the first duckling so i made the decision to take her eggs. Hatched 7 out. Look a little weak but i think it will be ok. These I am giving to a friend of mine for her farm. I have 3 muscovy drakes and 8 hens. I dont need any more!

Pls post some pics of your muscovies! I am expecting my first batch to hatch Wed, but won't have any idea what to do if mama doesn't want to participate. Also would like to confirm medicated chick starter for mama and babies or ???
