The Duck Thread

It's not often they sit still!

Ducklings sold! Keeping 1, somehow it has some black coloring, so I want to see how this one turns out!
All of them? Boy, that was quick. If I could sell some that quick and not have the time to change my mind I might try it myself. My problem is that I usually change my mind about selling them before I have finished typing the ad.

So it is now confirmed 4 of 7 of our ducks are drakes (1 Peking, 1 Rouen & 2 KC) :( 1 for sure is going to be on the table for Christmas (maybe Thanksgiving). If we keep the other 3 I am going to need at least 6 more hens, which I dont think I have room for :( I dont know who to keep & who will stay. I am thinking of keeping the Rouen & 1 KC, but both kc are so handsome.
Can you eat fertilized eggs?

Of course you can we eat them all the time. No difference in taste.

Thanks! I am new to keeping chickens & ducks (only 17 weeks in). If I let my ducks hatch their eggs and keep any females is it wrong if the dad breeds them? I want to be as prepared as possible.
You can allow them to breed...and they will...with their offspring. However I would suggest against hatching of those eggs as there is always the chance of genetic issues. As for eating fertilized eggs...yes you can. So long as you gather eggs on a daily basis and refrigerate them they will not be viable for hatching.
