I am building a flock of golden cascades for eggs. According to Dave Holderread they can lay 360+ eggs per year. I expect my Anconas to average 5 per week which is okay right now. I get the same production from my runners which is enough to full my orders for eggs. As my customer base grows I will need better production. I am only going to raise 3 breeds. Golden Cascade for eggs. Anconas for dual purpose, and Silver Appleyard for meat. I am also starting a flock of Buff geese.Really? Campbells are pretty chill. I was thinking of getting some welsh cause I thought they were the best layers
I'm getting blue sweedish ducklings and a couple of cayugad for sure cause they're so cute, but wanted to get some layers cause i've read sweedish and cayugas don't lay so many
I was just down there watching her and my chickens who have all gone back into the coop for their afternoon siesta! Shes mainly resting but she did get up and run her bill thru the dirt a little and get a drink of water! They all free roam so its hard to say what all shes eaten today! I know that she has eaten some of her feed too tho! Just noticed the reply about the vet too and no i can't....I just went thru that with my favorite chicken...none of the vets around here work with birds
My hubby probably plays with the ducks more than I do![]()
Wobbles, love the pictures! Willow is my favorite.
So my mallard hen seems to have walked offWe haven't seen her since yesterday morning. I'm holding out hope that she saw a flight of ducks somehow and decided to join her wild kin, but I'm worried that she may have flown into a neighbor's yard, and there are a lot of dogs around here
Poor drakes don't know what to do.![]()
Why do they quack when you pick them up? Is it cuz they don't like it?Are you sure she's trying to quack and it's not panting? Ducks will sometimes do what you're describing when they're panting or even just to clear their ears. If you're not sure, is there anything you can do to make her really try to quack? Some of ours will quack when they're picked up and restrained. That's usually how I test it if they won't make noise when I want them to.
Casportpony recently told me her ducks have eaten mice before. I was surprised. And Miss Lydia, too.We got some rain today, the ducks are so excited. Has anyone seen their duck eat a mouse? Or kill one? I think my duck killed one and didnt eat it. : /
Quote: Wow, so it was one of my ducks! It looked like a duck bill on the mouse.
