The Duck Thread

Hello! I live somewhere where we don't have much water, but I really want ducks! Can I have ducks without water?

If you can put out a small kiddie pool for them, then yes... they need deep waterers to wash out their nares and eyes so you could get away with just that for a bit, but they do need to wash up regularly to stay healthy...

I have been raising chickens for years. About 2 months or so ago I got 2 ducks from a friend. I have no idea what type they are. They are both females because I'm not interested in breeding. They live happily with my chickens in the coop with a nice run for them. Everyone is eating the duck grower mix feed. I was told that it's better for the growing chicks to eat duck grower rather than growing ducks to eat chicken grower. In the spring I plan on putting the ducks in the pond during the days. Until that time comes is there anything else I should be feeding these ducks? I'll try to post a picture and maybe someone could tell me what kind they are.

Thanks,
Nathan

Ceasargirl, today is closedown, took the eggs out of the egg turner, put water in the water trays. I put paper towel down because the eggs were rolling on the wire mesh. U said to have the fat end up a liitle. How do u that? The humidity is 70%. Should it b higher? I hope my eggs hatch

I use folded paper towels and kinda prop them up a bit, or washcloths. You can also cut toilet paper or paper towel tubes into rings and use those. 70 is ok. If you see condensation, humidity is too high. And it will climb as babies hatch. Did you candle??

It has been a pleasure to have you involved, Julie... and I'll be sure to give you updates on Io as well... :)

Yep, I like 26 better than 28 or 35... :gig
Thank you, RavynFallen. It's so wonderful how the whole thing comes to be inside that egg. Then I guess something kicks in the the baby starts busting out.

Cooooool. I am so excited about that. I will love seeing Io's development.
