There could be many reasons as others have suggested. Do you have swimming pools out for them or any other water source they use to swim in? I've had my ducks going on 3 yrs now and they have just this year started going to our pond that's about 125' from their night pen. They wouldn't use it originally so we dug one about 20' from their pen and landscaped it and everything. Now they won't use the one we dug, lol.
I free range but still inside a fenced in half acre. Are you talking about letting them free range with out fencing unsupervised? I could never do that here too many preds. Including the domesticated dogs that wander through occasionally Sometimes i do let them out for a while when I can sit and watch them. I think grass and dandelions can provide some nutrients but bugs for protein will be the bulk of it most likely. What is everyone's experience with free ranging and more importantly, free ranging unsupervised???
Also my ducks eat grass. Will they eat dandelions and can this sufficiently provide for their free-range diet?
