The Duck Thread

Okay, thanks. How long would you say it takes to heal?
It just depends on how bad. Usually in a week of soaking you can start working on gently getting the scab off you just don't want to pull it off and tear skin so you have to be careful. It isn't something that heals over night though. It takes a while.

Her toes are starting to swell... And they're warm. It's been below 20 degrees lately and I can feel how hot her feet are. I'll soak them tonight and keep her in a clean spot.

I don't have a water heater for inside their coop for drinking water. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I have a bird bath water heater but have not used it yet. I have been taking warm water out in a couple of jugs every 2 hours for them to drink. I have 11 ducks and only water and feed them in their out side area. At night they are pen`d up securely with clean dry bedding.
They enjoy washing and drinking in warm water during the cold weather.

Question. It is to be in the 20's here at night. My 5 pekin ducks are locked up at night in their enclosure. Is there any problem putting a small pool in the enclosure with them? I have a heat lamp in the enclosure with them. It is high enough that they can't reach it or splash water on it.
Thanks.

Ducks generally splash water everywhere . . . that could increase risk of hypothermia, seems to me.

I might put a 2 gallon stew pot in the center of a kiddie pool so they could splash in the stew pot and the kiddie pool could catch the water. Add sawdust pellets to absorb the splash....

Well the Vet thinks his oil glands are blocked up, because one the other ducks stepped on his cheek or was smashed/pushed into something which is causing the swelling/puffy cheek.

Do ducks have oil glands on their face? It kinda makes sense.

No, they don't... they have one oil gland at the base of their tail only... I really think it's a sinus infection...
