The Duck Thread

So I am kinda streesed out about all of this, and I do know you all are trying to help! My Mom is going to meet with the Vet tomorrow to get baytril.

Thank you everyone!!

Yay!!! :hugs

OH WOW! We actually have some Baytril from a previous duck!  There is a small amount left in the bottle.  My Mom has contacted the vet to see what dosage she recommends, but I am curious to know what your advice would be too.

Depends on the type of Baytril (concentration or suspension, etc)... can you get a pic of the label? And does it have an expiration date?

Oh, Kaaaaaathy... please help?

@casportpony is the best for figuring the dosages, lol...

Ducks generally splash water everywhere . . . that could increase risk of hypothermia, seems to me.

I might put a 2 gallon stew pot in the center of a kiddie pool so they could splash in the stew pot and the kiddie pool could catch the water.  Add sawdust pellets to absorb the splash....
That's a great idea. As the temperature dropped I got to thinking that when they splash water out of the pool onto the floor it would freeze. I figured ducks being sooooo smart they would break their necks slipping around. Lol So I removed the pool. Good thing I did, the pool that was outside was frozen this morning.

You know when a vet says something about an oil gland on the face makes you think gosh do they have one and I never knew after all these years? So googled it.

It amazes me too that someone who has been to Veterinary school wouldn't know that but I guess just like human meds There are those who know the birds anatomy and others who know say dog cat horse. I know once I called our vet about getting an antibiotic for my gander because him and my Muscovy drake got into it and he beat his wings up real bad on the fence fighting she didn't know what was safe but offered to look it up. Now she won't even talk meds about poultry.

I find that sad when so many know have back yard flocks. and what do other farmers do when their cow or goat or horse gets sick and there aren't any farm vets around? We don't have any at all. But there are a lot of people who keep these animals plus sheep is getting pop here too. Guess they have to do the treating themselves.

I'm going to trust that her wounds and condition is as you state.
How long has it been?
You can try giving her any specials treats she likes (lettuce, cucumber, carrots, bananas, pond food, cheerios) and hand feeding her. She could be lonely if she is used to being with other ducks and could be depressed. This should all be taken into account.
I would recommend starting a new thread strictly for this.

Can you take her to a vet?
