The Duckling Project **LOCKDOWN QUESTIONS ADDED 4/26/10**

I have heard different things but new to this my self maybe some other posters have some different ideas......I have my incubator in the bathroom so you could take in there and close door get nice and steamy in there and then open to add warm water. Or you can spray the eggs with warm water when you open so if they are pipping it does not dry out or poor warm water in the vent holes but make sure no eggs under the vents before you lockdown. Of course make sure full of warm water before lockdown. You can also do the washcloth and/or sponges with warm water at lockdown.

Really neat candling I could not see any veins....maybe there is a different way to candle then what I was doing?

Good luck!

If you candle from the air sack end you can see more, sometimes. Or if you candle on the opposite side of where the chick is developing you can see. If I were to shine the light on one side and see veins and then roll the egg to the opposite side it would just look orange/red and you wouldn't see any veins.

Good luck with your's too!!!

Well "miracle" didn't make it

I think I may have lost one of mine too. It was one I didnt think would even be fertile as it was one of the first laid by a young duck. I can still see veins- But it is not looking as it should. I hope all goes well with the others throughout the remining time left in incubation. I look foward to some more pics.. I have some that are just a few days ahead of yours and cant see alot in there apart from the veins now.

Sorry to hear about your Miracle not making it. I had 1 Call hatch out of 2. It does help to put a heavy book or something on top of these LG incubators. I read this on another post and really helped to steady my Temp. My chickens hatch out with no problem. The Calls are fully developed but when it comes time to hatch it seems they are not absorbing the yolk or die right before it is time to do so. Seems to be the most critical time for me.

Aw, good luck with your eggs! I've actually got my own "project" going on. I'm on day 24, though, and getting very excited! When I candled them last night I could see their bills in the air sac and we could hear them peeping.

I'll be following your progress with enthusiasm!

Thanks everyone for your kindness! This is day 14 for my ducks! I have 11 eggs left out of the 16. All are thriving and have a lot of movement when I candle. As I promised here are the day 14 candling pictures:

I hope you all enjoyed it! I can see the little bills hitting the side of the egg while I candle. Can you post video on here? I wanted to share with you all the neat movements from them
