My serial broody Peach had a daughter this March, Kiwi. Kiwi is 5 months old now, laid 15 eggs and now she's broody lol. What is the youngest broody you ever had? Did I set a record?

Wow! That is young.
But since Kiwi is Peach’s offspring that makes perfect sense for her to be broody.

One of my hens sunny , went broody at 6 months after laying 5 eggs . Since march she has gone broody twice a month ! The one time I let her sit she leaves the eggs on day eleven ! She is a Cochin bantam tho .

That's young!

My youngest brooder was four months old when she went broody for the first time. She was this Olive Egger who I'd say had some hormonal issues because when she wasn't brooding all the time, she was mounting the other hens like she was a rooster. On the mounting, it got so bad I had to put saddles on my girls even though I didn't have a rooster.

We got a group of chicks in late February, and the smallest started going broody a few weeks ago at five months-ish. Theo the chocolate orpington is the smallest of the flock and I was worried she'd been bullied there (it was an issue we one had in a mixed flock, a buff orpington living in the nest box off of eggs, because she'd get bullied if she tried to eat or drink). After a lot of monitoring, nope, she's broody. If I get her gently off the nest and break her trance, she rockets out to eat, drink and shoulders in next to the other birds.

I'm hoping the broody is broken, as this morning she was waiting with the others to go out into the outer pen. She ignored the fresh food and immediately took an enthusiastic dust bath, then proceeded with her favorite morning run flaps like she did before going broody. I'm hoping this isn't a sign she's going to be a super broody for her whole life.

I had two lavender EEs, Orpington-based, that went broody at about 11 months and each hatched a chick a few days before turning 1 year old. I thought that was a bit young, but you've def got me beat! They went broody again not long after weaning their chicks and are now busy raising 21 chicks I gave them. They are wonderful mothers! Egg producers, not so much!

Y’all have me beat! My Barred Rock went broody at five months and is now broody again at seven months.

She looks (and acts) scary as h3ll, but she’s surprisingly docile when I have to move her around. She just flairs and growls and tuk tuk tuks, but she doesn’t peck or bite. In fact, Broody Trudy is a lot less exhausting than non-broody Trudy. The Littles have apparently decided that she’s that one weird auntie, the one with a fondness for martinis and rude language.

I’m giving her some time as an experiment, to see how the others (warily) move around her, but I’ll probably wind up moving her to broody jail on Friday.
