I think I'm about to get my 4th layer - AC a 21 week old Ancona has been acting weird all afternoon. She started just standing still and kind of squatting down a little. Her butt looked like it was convulsing. At one point she pushed out a big white thing - so I rushed over - turns out it was just a big poop with white end. But she continued to act like she was in labor LOL! I'll check again later tonight, but I think in the next couple of days she'll lay me her 1st egg.

I still have my 25 week old White Leghorn faithfully laying a perfect white egg every single day for the past 29 days. My other 21 week old EE pullets are both laying gorgeous green eggs! So once AC gets on board all my big chicks will be laying!

Then it will be end of Feb or start of March for my four 12 week old Lavender Orpingtons to be old enough to lay. And who knows about those two Silkies - they could be girls, could be boys - not a clue.

Just when we thought we could wait NO longer, our 20 week old Buff Orpington laid her first egg -out of our "flock" of 3 pullets!

Buffy's waddles & comb had been red for several weeks and she had been squatting for over a week. She gave us 5 perfect "pullet bullets" this week.

The Rhode Island Red is also getting more red in the face, but hasn't done the egg squat yet...Who knows, Rhodie is skittish so may never do the egg squat. She isn't mean, just a bit shy. Though, she does sing the egg song together after Buffy lays an egg. It's so cute! It is like a jubilant victory chorus!

Our Barred Rock doesn't even act like egg laying is part of her plan. Rocky's comb and waddles are pale compared to the other two. And, she is a Miss Priss, so I will be shocked to see her "submit" and drop a squat! My DH needs to have a talk to her about it either being eggs or meat -hehe!

They are all 21 weeks old this week. It is fascinating to see them develop into big girls. And, frustrating when you feed and spoil them and they freeload on you. But, that first egg is so special. I must have taken a dozen pictures of it.

Here is buffy working on her 2nd egg:

This is a picture of her first little egg:

Well, Little Punky didn't make me wait too long. I got my first egg yesterday. They had been free ranging all weekend so I was very proud that she went back to her nesting box. This is a picture of her on Saturday. The cute little white egg is hers and the brown egg is a farm fresh egg I bought. The brown eggs in the nesting boxes are wooden.

Thanks. When we got her back in Mid-November the top of her head was completely bald so we have been keeping Blu Kote on it and she is now starting to grown in some new feathers. This is how she got her name because she looks like a little punk rocker.
